Nuance acquires Swype for $100+ million


Predictive text input software maker Nuance has reportedly acquired Swype for over $100 million according to a report on Uncrunched. Nuance makes the popular T9 predictive text software that has been on phones since the 90′s. Swype, which has been around for a couple of years, makes virtual keyboards for Android smartphones where users don’t have to lift their finger while typing and instead just swipe from one character to another. It is considered to be a rival to Nuance’s T9 and it needs to be seen how Nuance will incorporate the software with its current offering. While Swype used some sort of predictive text software, it is most likely that Nuance will now integrate it with its own T9 software.
