Cello launches iPlayer ready TV

Cello

Well, this does look exciting.
Cello Electronics, a small British manufacturer of LCD televisions, will tomorrow announce its second world first of the year.
Not content with launching the first TV with a built-in SD-card based video recorder back in August, the company is now launching the first TV that can connect to streaming services such as YouTube and iPlayer.
The new television, available at first with 26-inch and 32-inch screens, comes with an ethernet port, but is also built to work with an additional wireless dongle. Its operating system, developed by another British company, allows it to connect to services that previously required a PC. It can also stream images from a user's PC.
Cello is hardly a name to match the Japanese giants, but its directors claim that its small size actually helps it get products to market faster than the competition.
The company's TVs are on sale in most supermarkets, and in Marks and Spencer, which has an exclusive deal until Christmas with these new sets.
The TVs will cost £399 and £499, and the larger screen is full HD.
Now for the bad news. It's called the iViewer.
The iViewer, I ask you. A great concept. An original idea. The worst, most derivative name in the world.
Come on chaps, you're from Yorkshire, not California.
