Google's Book Search Comes to Phones

The popular Google Book search service that allows you to wade through public domain books, will now be available on mobile phones as well.

Although limited to iPhone and Android based devices as of now, it is expected to gain a wider footprint with support for more devices and platforms. So, if you have an iPhone or say, a T-Mobile G1, you can now access the entire 1.5 million books right from your phone!

These are the same books that you would see on the "normal" web version of the program. The only difference is that these have been optimized for the smaller screens. Google had earlier scanned all these books using Optical Character Recognition (OCR).While this idea was initially opposed by publishers, Google chose to include only those books that are available in the public domain to be listed in the results thereby eliminating legal issues.
