Meet the big daddy of all gaming laptops
I don’t like to write reviews. But today I am going to make an exception. I have been waiting to get my hands on the Alienware M11X for several months now and mine finally arrived. Primarily designed keeping on-the-move gamers and geeks in mind, the M11X is one of the most powerful yet portable laptops in the world.
All good things in life come in small boxes. Even the Dell M11X that I ordered online arrived in a super cool looking black and blue box. Holding the box up makes you realise how surprisingly lightweight the M11X is (1.99 kgs including adapter to be precise). As soon as you power on the M11X and if you look at it from the right angles, I promise you its sexy curves and LED lights will make it look less like a laptop and more like a fancy luxury car (or even a spaceship). The Alienware has lights everywhere.
The Alienware logo beneath the screen, the keyboard, the power on button, the logo on the back cover, the WiFi indicator and the front two corners of the laptop are all backlit (mine are lit up in blue LED, but the colours can easily be customised using the FX panel software).
Don’t just go by her looks, the M11X comes with a 1.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, a switchable 1 GB NVIDIA GT335M GP, 4 GB of RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive, 11.6 inch LCD screen and support for some crazy powerful graphics. The 4.5 hours battery life (expandable to 7.5 hours) on the Alienware makes it convenient to be on the move.
Unlike most other laptops, the battery pack on the Alienware does not stick out from the rear and has been accommodated inside the laptop chassis itself. Connectivity options on the Alienware are also plenty with 2 USB ports, 2 headphone jacks, 1 microphone jack on the right and 1 USB port, Firewire, VGA, HDMI, Ethernet, Display Port, SIM Card Slot and a 3-in-1 memory card reader on the left. There is also a high quality built in web camera mounted on the screen which makes Aliensense facial recognition software work like a breeze.
The only thing missing is a CD drive, which is easy to manage without. The keyboard layout is slightly different and takes a little getting used to, but the keys are very responsive and noise free. Overall, I love my Dell Alienware M11X since it’s a great combination of power, great looks, super battery life and is very portable.
