IIT Kanpur Students Develop Nanosatellite

Students at the IIT K (Kanpur) are working with the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) to develop the first nano satellite that might end up in space if all goes as planned. The students expect that work on the satellite will take another 7 months to near completion and will be used to collect information for flood, drought, and disaster management.

Google Goofs up Again

Gmail users across the globe watched in disbelief as their Inboxes became unresponsive and inaccessible for quite a lengthened period of time. This is the second time in the same month that Google managed to goof-up. This time the issue was caused during a routine maintenance of one of its European data centers. The outage also hit Gmail s paid users and as a goodwill gesture, Google declared 15 days of free service to businesses, government agencies and other subscribers who pay for an expanded version of the product and were affected by the service breakdown.

Microsoft Won't Build its Own Smartphones

It s official! Rumors about Microsoft launching its own range of Smartphones were dashed after Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer on Tuesday said Microsoft had no intentions to venture into the highly competitive mobile phone hardware segment. There goes all your hopes of seeing an iPhone killer from the company. Microsoft is seeking to make money by offering Windows mobile on cheaper devices and intends to work on redesigning its user interface, introduce an application store and offer a content backup services as add-on features.

Adobe Releases Photoshop CS4 Update

Adobe has released a new Adobe Photoshop CS4 (11.0.1) update for Windows and Mac OS X platforms. John Nack, principal product manager for Adobe Photoshop, added a post on his blog about the new update that addresses certain performance and stability issues.

Saying just anything on your blog might turn out to be a thing of the past with the recent Supreme Court ruling stating that owners of blogs would be held responsible for content posted in them. A criminal case has been filed against a Kerala-based 19-year-old IT student for starting a community on Orkut against a political party. "You should not have indulged in such activity. You are a student of IT. You are doing something on Internet and you should know about it," the Supreme Court Bench said, refusing his lawyer's plea.

LG Announces Five New Mid-end Handsets

LG announced as many as five mid to low end handsets last week. The new phones launched included the music oriented slider phone, the GM310, the LG GB250, a clamshell that comes with 1GB of internal memory and the LG GB220 which is similar to elder sibling the GB250 except that this one does not sport the 3G chip and comes with lesser (512 MB) internal memory. Continuing with another slider phone, we have the GM130, which is a low end handset featuring a dual band connectivity, (900 / 1800 MHz), a 2 inch, 120 x 160 pixel TFT display, MP3 player, FM Radio and 64MB of on board memory. Lastly, there is the GB102, which is a dual band candybar phone with basic features.

Nokia 5800 - Speaker issues

The week ended with a bang with news trickling in that the initial models Nokia's famed first Series 60 fifth edition handset, the 5800 Xpress Music came with defective speakers and that they will amost surely fail. The news is still developing and we hope Nokia will be able to restore order soon.

Microsoft Vista SP 2 RC Coming Next Week
News for Windows 7 fans! Microsoft has announced the Release Candidate for Windows Vista Service Pack 2. The second Vista Service Pack will be available publicly via TechNet next week. This update will add support for newer hardware and emerging standards states Brandon LeBlanc, Microsoft's windows communications manager in a post on official Windows Team Blog.
